DVT/PE (Deep Vein Thrombosis and/or Pulmonary Embolism)
Deep Vein Thrombosis and/or Pulmonary Embolism
Patients diagnosed with acute deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and/or pulmonary embolism management (PE) now have an option for comprehensive management. The Prairie DVT Program is designed to evaluate each patient in partnership with their physician to identify the full extent of their condition and the most appropriate therapy for each patient’s unique situation.
The Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Clinic facilitates the appropriate management of patients with blood clots on an outpatient basis with the approval of their primary care physician. As the referring physician’s agent, the staff of the DVT Clinic will coordinate most aspects of anticoagulation therapy (e.g. order appropriate laboratory tests, adjust anticoagulation medications, schedule return appointments, etc.) Anticoagulation therapy will be managed collaboratively with the referring physician. Patients will be monitored until their clotting factors are within safe therapeutic range then returned to the care of their primary care physician. This program, supervised by a Medical Director, Shailesh Nandish, M.D., is staffed with nurse practitioners and registered nurses.
